Well I don’t usually do an album & a track but this week is no ordinary week.  Nasty Nas is back!!

For those of you who are not familiar with Nas (real name Nasir Jones) he is widely perceived to be one of the most important figures in Hip Hop and one of the best M.C.’s of all time.  This is true.  From his critically acclaimed debut album Illmatic to the more recent collaboration with Damien Marley, Nas has always managed to produce Hip Hop at the highest level and a flow and lyrical content that has few equals.  One of his contemporaries and long running enemies was Jay-Z himself and they often traded blows through their flows on wax over a long period of time. They have since patched up their differences and Jay-Z has gone on to become one of the biggest selling hip hop artist of all time although hip hop itself has found itself in a downturn.  Commercial Hip Hop is in a cul de sac.  With most of the biggest selling artists jumping ship and making crappy second-rate dance music has the currency of Hip Hop been downgraded?  To be honest I’m glad that the pomposity of the “I got money coming outta my ass” days are over, I mean how is any young kid on the street today going to relate to that, its sickening and even if these so called artists have a few quid, they certainly ain’t earning the inflated advance cheques of times gone by.  Hip Hop was never about how big your car or crotch was, it was always an expression from the streets.  Stories of struggles, life and society.  Rapping was a sign of the great thinker, intelligence, being able to express and overcome the physicality’s of life with the power of the mind.  Maybe this is my own romantic ideology but Hip Hop at its roots was just this, no thrills and spills just an a beat an MC and his microphone, if Hip Hop is looking for a way out of this dead end then I suggest they go back to its roots. Who will be the messiah? No other than the prodigal son himself NaS.  Well it seems that he is doing just that and is back with the first cut form his forthcoming 10th studio album, which has to be the most important Hip Hop records of the year.  PRAISE THE LORD!!! Nas has come back to remind people of what it’s about. Lyrical Poetry. The video is brilliant, filmed back in Queens NY where he grew up and it suggests that it is indeed time to take Hip Hop back to where it rightly belongs.  All hail Nasty.
