Me & My Music..

Picture
Music is my Life.  Ever since a young boy I have had a special connection with music.  Apparently, instead of learning to walk as a toddler I learnt to dance to Suzi Quattro instead.  Throughout my teens I was a keen breakdancer and living in Manchester was into the emerging early Hip Hop scene of the 80's.  I remember using a tape to tape to create edits of my favourite hip hop tracks and used to spend my lunch breaks in school recording myself rapping over hip hop instrumentals on the school's new Tascam 4 track.  I also learnt to play the guitar although that was a very long time now and can't play a note anymore unfortunetly.  I was very much into Scratch Djing and used to follow the DMC championships avidly with my heros being DJ Pogo whom later became a good friend and People like Cashmoney and Cutmaster Swift.  I was an religious listener of Stu Allan's Beat Dis' show on Piccadilly radio in Manchester if anyone out there knows what I mean.  It was the explosion of the Acid House scene in the late 80's that started getting me into House Music.  It was Crazy, although I was too young to frequent any of the historic clubs like the Hacienda and Shoom it was an enormous energy explosion, like punk, that captured my imagination.  This fascination of the scene would be expressed 20 years later through my documentary "and the beat goes on".  So the free party and rave scene of the late 80's early 90's engulfed me, I was a proper raver..bandanas, baggy jeans long hair, I had the lot and I had the urge to be a DJ.  I became involved in the free party scene, following the likes of DiY Soundsystem and Spiral Tribe and started organising underground parties in Birmingham where I was studying.  Things went from strength to strength, I moved to London to follow my dream as an actor and continued to DJ at free parties and clubs House/Funk/Disco/HipHop/Soul was my poison and still is, although I appreciate all music as a whole and even had faze in a thrash metal band at school.  I love energy.  Music is the one thing that can communicate feelings and emotions like no other medium can, this is why I love it so much and try to express this through my DJ sets and productions.  I still like to rap and have produced tracks under the name "Lord Gravel", I even got to jam with the Strictly Band on the live tour.  At the moment I want to concentrate on my DJing and Deep House Productions under the guise of mrmist.  Im also writing disco influenced beats with Tony S under the guise of Umbrella Bros.  DJ gigs I have played include The Big Chill, tabula rasa, Nikki Beach at the film festival in Cannes, StealthVsRescued in Notts, The Egg in London, Cosmic @ Sosho (Shoreditch), MUAK, The Kingly Club, Diu London, Digital Huggz, Proud Galleries, The Drunken Monkey, House FM, The Brickhouse, Bar Vinyl, Heaven, "Iam Rockstar" @ Boujis & Maya London, Desert Island Disco, Chi@ The Lodge(Dubai), Café Mambo(Ibiza), Earthdance Ibiza @ Privilege, F*** me Im Famous with David Guetta @ Pacha(Ibiza) and Pete Tong’s Wonderland @ Eden(Ibiza), Ibiza Sonica Radio amongst others. Also afterparties and various award ceromonies. Theres lots coming so stay tuned and I hope you like my stuff.
